Incident Overview

A doctor at a private hospital in Sihor, Bhavnagar, Gujarat, was reportedly assaulted by a patient’s relatives. The altercation occurred on Saturday when the family sought treatment for a woman with a head injury.

Trigger for the Assault

The confrontation began when Dr. Jaideepsinh Gohil requested the family members to remove their slippers before entering the emergency room. This simple request led to an argument, which soon escalated into physical violence against the doctor.

CCTV Captures the Attack

The entire incident was recorded on the hospital’s CCTV. The footage shows the family standing beside the patient when Gohil enters the room. His request to remove their footwear sparks a heated exchange, quickly turning violent. Despite efforts by the nursing staff and the patient to stop the assault, the attack on Gohil continued.

Legal Action Taken

The assault caused significant damage to medical equipment, and Gohil, 33, sustained injuries. The accused also reportedly threatened to kill him, as mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR). Police have arrested three individuals involved in the attack: Hiren Dangar, Bhavdeep Dangar, and Kaushik Kuvadiya. They have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to causing harm, provoking unrest, and criminal intimidation.

Ongoing Protests for Doctor’s Safety

This incident occurs amid nationwide protests following the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The medical community is demanding justice for the victim and calling for a central law to protect doctors while on duty.

Conclusion

The assault on Dr. Gohil highlights the growing concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals in India, as protests and demands for legal protection continue to rise.
