The Government of Gujarat, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, has launched a major ₹650 crore rural sanitation initiative to strengthen cleanliness and improve public health in villages across the state.
The scheme, introduced by the Panchayat Department, is titled Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana. It aims to bring qualitative improvement in sanitation services, ensure proper waste management, and promote a healthier rural environment.
Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana: Key Details
Currently, the scheme is being implemented in 667 villages across 21 talukas in 12 districts of Gujarat. The state government has allocated a total budget of ₹650 crore to support the program.
Under this initiative:
-
Gram Panchayats will appoint agencies for door-to-door waste collection.
-
These agencies will also manage the cleaning of public places.
-
Waste collected in villages will be transported to designated dumping sites.
-
Taluka-level authorities will appoint separate agencies to transfer accumulated waste to the nearest municipality or municipal corporation processing units.
The program is also operational in urban development authorities such as RUDA, GUDA, and VUDA, ensuring coordinated sanitation management.
Focus on Rural Cleanliness and Public Health
The primary objective of this large-scale sanitation drive is to raise the overall cleanliness standards in rural Gujarat. By improving solid waste management systems, the government aims to reduce health risks and promote a cleaner, safer living environment.
Additionally, incentives for the repair and maintenance of sanitation assets and vehicles are being provided under the Swachh Bharat Mission, further strengthening the initiative.
This move aligns with Gujarat’s broader goal of enhancing rural infrastructure, boosting hygiene awareness, and ensuring sustainable development.
₹302.40 Crore Approved for Two New Bridges in Narmada District
In another significant decision, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved infrastructure projects worth ₹302.40 crore to improve connectivity in the tribal areas of Narmada district.
Bridge Projects to Improve Connectivity
The approved projects include:
-
₹123.13 crore for the construction of a bridge from Rengan Ghat to Rampura Ghat
-
₹179.27 crore for a bridge connecting Shaherav Ghat to Tilakwada Ghat
These new bridges are expected to benefit more than 18,000 residents from around 11 villages in the region.
Benefits for Tribal Villages
The construction of these bridges will significantly improve access to district and taluka headquarters. Villages such as Tilakwada, Vasan, Rengan, Rampura, Mangrol, and Shaherav in both northern and southern parts of the district will experience smoother and faster transportation.
The improved connectivity is expected to enhance economic activity, healthcare access, education opportunities, and overall rural development in the tribal belt of Gujarat.
Strengthening Rural Infrastructure and Development
With the launch of the ₹650 crore rural sanitation scheme and the approval of major bridge projects, the Gujarat government is reinforcing its commitment to rural development, public health, and infrastructure growth.
These initiatives reflect a strong focus on clean villages, better connectivity, and sustainable progress, positioning Gujarat as a leading state in rural transformation and governance reform.
