A tragic bridge collapse in Vadodara, located in India’s western Gujarat state, has claimed the lives of at least nine people, according to police reports shared by the Press Trust of India.

Bridge Collapses Amid Heavy Rains

The incident took place on Wednesday morning, when a portion of the bridge gave way and sent several vehicles plunging into the river below. The region had been experiencing heavy rainfall over the last few days, which may have contributed to the collapse.

Bridge Built in 1985

According to Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, the bridge was built in 1985. He confirmed that multiple vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse. So far, five people have been rescued from the river.

Rescue Operations Underway

Emergency teams and local residents quickly launched a search and rescue operation to find survivors. Images from the site show rescue personnel wading through water and debris, working tirelessly to locate those who may be trapped.
