Urvil Patel’s Historic Knock
Gujarat’s wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel made history on Wednesday by scoring the fastest T20 century by an Indian in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Tripura in Indore. Patel reached the three-figure mark in just 28 balls, breaking the previous record held by Rishabh Pant.
A Year of Milestones for Urvil Patel
This remarkable achievement comes exactly one year after Patel scored the second-fastest century by an Indian in List-A cricket. Last year, he hit an unbeaten 100 off 41 balls for Gujarat in a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh.
Urvil Patel Breaks Rishabh Pant’s Record
With his blistering knock, Patel surpassed Rishabh Pant’s record of 32 balls for the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Pant had set this mark in the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Himachal Pradesh. Patel’s performance now stands as the second-fastest T20 century in history, only behind Sahil Chauhan of Estonia, who scored a 100 in 27 balls against Cyprus.
Urvil’s Unstoppable Batting
Opening the innings, Patel’s incredible hitting saw him score 113 off 35 balls, including seven fours and 12 sixes. His aggressive innings guided Gujarat to a victory in a chase of 156 runs in just 10.2 overs.
IPL Auction and Future Prospects
Despite his stellar performances, Patel went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 player auction earlier this week. However, his record-breaking feat has brought him into the spotlight once again, solidifying his reputation as one of the most explosive batters in Indian domestic cricket.
